I remember when I first started out, I played a lot of Metallica. Thankfully I've grown out of that stage now, still a good starting point though. |

Good luck!

Here's some beginner songs suggestions that I have learned: "One of My Kind" -INXS, "Love is the Drug" -Roxy Music, "Erotic City" -Prince, "Under Pressure" "Another One Bites the Dust" -Queen, "Rock Your Body" -Justin Timberlake, "Hella Good (Keep on Dancing)" - No Doubt |

And whatever you do, keep on practicing. |

They've got some fairly basic basslines that tend to repeat throughout the song. And they're just a lot of fun to play along with IMO. |

Pretty straightforward but awesome nonetheless. The intro to War Pigs is cool, although a bit harder. I was in a band where pretty much everyone except me was huge into KISS and I have to admit Gene does have some cool lines - Cold Gin and All American Man in particular I remember liking to play.
Anything from Judas Priest is good if you feel like turning off your brain and chugging out the eighth notes. |

All were pretty easy to throw down with on the main riffs. Sometimes you'll come across challenging sections of a tab, just practice it often or fill in with the verse riff again until you're more confident. |

Is this for fun in your living room or are you aiming to get into a gigging band eventually (and if so, what kind of band)? I would just say learn to play whatever you like to listen to, start with the simple songs and work up. I was having a go at Duran Duran's "Rio" within a few weeks of getting my first bass a year and a half ago and I still can't play it right (not that I've worked at it consistently). But I learned a lot by working on it.
