So, here I am listening to the Coldplay album that came out in the U.S. today. I really like it, and I would like to hear other people's opinions are?

Don't know, but I will say the newest single is exponentially more interesting than any of their previous ones.

Odd, I thought the new single sounded like it was run through the 80's era U2 song-machine....4 times. Color me underwhelmed, I was more of a fan back in the "rush of blood" era, and thought XY was kinda weak, save for 2 songs.

I've been listening to it non-stop for the past week. Well, it and Tha Carter III. I like that this album doesn't feature as much falsetto, and musically it's in a decently different direction than their last. The music sounds more lush, atmospheric and a bit more melodic. And there's a more variety on this than their last album. Overall, I like it much better than X&Y.

And is it just me, or do the drums sound different on certain songs? For instance, the beginning kick on Viva La Vida almost sounds like a sample to me.

I don't like this new album...

Coldplay's drummer doesn't even pretend to play with feel and it pains me just to listen to them. They're just so... so.... bad! (not that I expected any better based off of previous stuff, but at least I could listen to it...)

GAH!

>_<

Don't want to turn this into a flame war... you asked for my opinion.

I agree...this album is horrible. I was very disappointed. I'm not digging their new musical direction.

About time Coldplay started making some good music. I have never cared for anything Coldplay has done before, but I have liked everything I have heard from this new album.

Viva la vida was misleading. The itunes commercial made it sound like this dark minor song, but when you hear it in the whole context it's bright and happy. That disappointed me .

here's my probably with vida la vida: aside from the title track and violet hill, there's not a memorable melody in the bunch. i think one of the harsher criticisms from the last album was that the band plays it safe in terms of arrangement and instrumentation. it seems like they took that criticism to heart, but forgot what made their previous albums so good. crazyguy, i feel that same way about the drummer, but in the context of coldplay (straight ahead, 4 on the floor songs) it's not as much of an issue
