Mark fails at using the forums that he moderates.

Some of those are awesome, but who's the chode that would order a double-neck seven-string?

The new website looks great! I see it has a Groove Tools section. Without reading the page properly, are they making these basses again or what?

Conklins aren't as good as G&L and ramps suck!

Conklin has always reminded me of the "Willy Wonka" of luthiers. They're very good basses but there's always something crazy about them like 28 strings or 8 different kinds of woods.

I've actually called Rob Elrick the Willy Wonka of bass luthiers for years, because all this wonderful product comes out of his shop, but he keeps an extremely low profile so you rarely ever see or hear about the man behind the creations.

He threw a purple velvet cape and a a lock of his now-shaven mohawk in there for posterity's sake as well.

Conklin really does make some of the most innovative stuff out there. You don't hear their name much outside of the Groove Tools line because they sell direct, but they've done a huge amount of bass "firsts" and have some of the most creative woodworking ideas I've seen.

I actually lived and went to college in Springfield MO for about 10 years. A few guys had Conklins around there but not that many. Guess they couldn't afford it, I know I couldn't when I was in college. In hindsight I wish I would've tried to get to know the guy while I was there.

I bought a used GT-5 about 7 years ago...I love it...still the only bass I use (although that's also an issue of spending money)

Also as a side note...not a huge fan of the new site, the design seems haphazard and very 1.0 and a lot of the effects in the flash come off as late 90's style "effects cause we can"...I could have have done better.

Prepare yourself for an onslaught of "I prefer they devote their time and money to making basses and not cool websites" replies to your post.

BTW, I thought the same thing. It felt like a VH1 "I love the 90's" website.

Eh, I think there are a few luthiers who really focus on basses and not so much on the website. Eh, no biggie. I love my Conklin and wouldn't mind owning another some day!

Still a pretty snazzy looking site even if the flash effects are a bit cheesy. I like it!
