New game - just testing the water...

This thread is not meant to be a game, but I am just testing the water for a new game for the forum. I have no idea whether it has been done before or whether people would even really be interested, so I thought I would check first.

I nabbed this idea from a skateboarding forum I found myself reading the other day. Their game was basically a test of skill - a trick was set and then they had a certain number of days to pull off the trick, and film themselves doing it.

There were X number of people in each game, and if you couldn't land the trick or you didn't post a video you were knocked out. Tricks got gradually more difficult until there was a winner.

I was thinking that it might be cool to try the same thing, but with songs - a song is set, and everyone in the round has 4 or 5 days to go away, learn the song and post a video of them playing it on Youtube. If the song is too hard, you make too many mistakes or you fail to post a video you are knocked out. We then up the difficulty of the songs until we have a winner.

I figure that it will be good for us - we will all practice a little bit more, and we might be exposed to new music we wouldn't usually listen to.

So - anyone interested? Any suggestions? Obviously if people want to have a go we will have to come up with a set of rules before we start to avoid confusion/disappointment.

IDK... sounds like a lot of work and I don't even own a webcam. So I'm probably not in, especially not if it becomes a technique war. Who is going to decide what's easy and what's difficult? Who will be allowed to attend the competition? I think there should be a limit of perhaps 10 participants. And who will select the next song?

This game got me thinking of this youtube video, which includes slapping from level 1 to 7. IMO, level 1 is already pretty on the limit of what I can do slap-wise...

I don't want to see a thread where we bash each others playing either, and this kind of game could easily derail into that. So I'm skeptical...

I did think of that stuff. That is why I created this thread - just to get people's opinions. I'm not sure exactly how it would all work, but it is stuff to think about.

As for that video - . The thing is though - there aren't going to be that many bass players who are at that level, and there aren't going to be many songs out there which use that level of playing.

Youtube - there are ridiculous amounts of skating vids.

No-one else interested in the game?

Nope. I don't see many of us wanting to compete over skill. What you CAN do isn't always what you should do, and timing and sense are paramount, especially over mad wanking skilzz yo.

Fair enough. I thought that this might be the reaction - I decided to throw it out there anyway, but...

Thanks for reading anyway!
