I have been offered the bass spot in a pretty popular group and I think I am going to take it although it will require a commitment of learning 91 songs in the next 2 and a half weeks These guys play to huge crowds all the time, they are considered quite a party band but like I say they pack the clubs and make some cash so I wil just have to buckle down and get the list nailed Wish me luck!

420 hours/91 songs = 4 hours, 37 minutes per song
= No sweat

420 hours - (40 hrs per week x 2.5 weeks)= 320 available hours
(6 hrs sleep per night x 7 days in a week)2.5 weeks = 105 hrs sleeping
320 available hours - 105 hours sleeping = 215 available hours
215 hrs/91 songs = 2.36 hours per song.
so still, no sweat... as long as your willing to spend ALL your free time learning songs.

| | Lone Wolf and Renagade Miner | | | | | Yes I do work fulltime but I am the boss so I can sneak in and out when needed. There are some of the songs I am familiar with but these guys put their own stamp on it.This will also be going in without rehersal, but I have played with the drummer on a Blues Brothers production so I am a little familiar with his meter.I should go and learn some music!

Prioritize, and you will do fine...Good luck again!!! |

I read in Bass Player, years ago, don't remember who said it.....
Listen to a song five times in a row without your bass in your hands to really understand what the original player is doing.
(Not that you've got a lot of time to try and get in 60+ players heads) but you are still 'practicing' by listening.

That's exactly what I do when I've got to drive through a nasty long list. Drives my wife nuts, since I have it playing even in the car.
