http://iheartguitarblog.com/2013/01/...prototype.html

And I thought 8 string guitars were the newest thing!

At some point the square-cube law will kick in and necks won't be able to get any bigger...

Seeing that it is tuned C#, F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E , shouldn't it be called a bass/guitar?
Nothing wrong with it, but some extended range instruments are making both terms fairly meaningless.

I think its cool and *** at the same time. I'd love to hear it/try it.

I feel some people think that because one company is trying out a 9 string guitar that itll become the norm or something.

Seems to be the opposite, yet similar accusation normally directed toward an ERB bassist. You know, the uninformed "Get a guitar!" folks.

I didn't mean to imply that one playing this "guitar" should just buy a bass instead. I was only pointing out that because it goes lower
than a traditional 4 string bass, while also covering the range of a 6 string guitar, that the terms guitar and bass are becoming inadequate
descriptions. It seems for instruments like this that scale length is the sole factor that is used to distinguish between bass and guitar.

I hope this clarifies what I meant.

If Chapman Sticks were for plucking and strumming instead of tapping, you could say they are a guitar/basses.

The dang neck on that Ibby looks like it can't be very comfortable, but maybe that's just me. I don't have huge hands.

I only have 4 fingers to use on the fretboard, and playing chords on something like that would be ridiculous. Im assuming that this is only for shredding and the lower tuned strings would accommodate the super low tunings that most metal bands use.

6 strings is almost too much for me :P , can't even imagine trying 8 or 9. A 9 string Floyd rose trem would be pretty cool to see though!

C#, F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E.. xD Well, with the C# I think it's build for the kind of music you can hear / understand xD Worse then Meshuggah xD

Trust me, it's not the end of the world.

It's not like we are all required to play one of these merely because they exist: Guy playing a nine-string bass

Once again, that neck is just way too wide for me, but this dude prefers it. Who am I to say he shouldn't have that many strings?

Check it out man...here's your solution: don't buy it.

Wasn't that great?
