Hey guys,

Has anyone heard about the eigenharp?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJhiY...eature=related

Think it has any merit as a "real" and usable instrument or is it just nerd instrument that will fade from obscurity into deeper obscurity?

Personally, I would love to have one just to mess around on.

Ryan

Interesting...it's good to see people are coming up with new physical interfaces to make digital technology more expressive. The website says it can do microtonal scales - very cool.

Looks like you could poke your eye out with the mouthpiece if you're not careful, though.

Have you seen the price of them? Ridiculously pricey.

It's cool and all, but if the Chapman Stick (which expensive as it is, is cheaper than an Eigenharp) never really took off, I don't see this being a huge hit either.

It will fade into obscurity. Musicians are luddites to the death. See transposing instruments, for example.
