New(to me)Ebay Scam

Sign in to disble this ad
Not sure if you guys have ever seen this one.I was out bid an a sennheiser wireless unit.Withen 7 min. I was sent a second chance offer from what I assumed was the seller. The trick was that it came in from an ebay member and the msg was from ebay. All he wanted was my name and address and said ebay would contact me about payment.Luckily i sent the real seller asking him if he sent the offer which he responded that he knew nothing about it.I e-mailed ebay to ask them and they checkrd into it-they too verified there was no such offer.

Just a few minutes ago I recieved payment info through an ebay account from an ebay member, but obviously not the original seller.Man this almost worked and looked so legit.

Anyone run accross this one yet??I just thinking up a nice little response for this gent.

It's happened to me many times. But it is sort of easy to tell when it's a fraud. Simply go to your "My eBay" page. If it's legit, it'll be listed there, as there are legit second chance offers out there (I get them from Italia Straps all thetime and have put them to good use in the past. Heh heh...). But yeah, you need to be careful on there. Too many people there trying to separate you from your money without delivering the goods.

I first encountered it a few months ago, and on the whole, it was well executed. The e-mails looked like legit eBay e-mails. It didn't seem right from the start, well executed as it was, but if definitely fell apart when the 'seller' said that to pay for the second chance offer, I'd have to send a Money Order to Singapore, even though the item (I think it was an amp) was in San Diego. It was a clearly a scam at this point, but I asked him about the discrepancy, for the hell of it, and he said something to the effect of "I assure you that if you send me the money the item will get to you." Sure it will.

ha.they look legit.i also started to wonder when he asked for western union.strangly he said he is vacationing in the UK right now but once his wife gets the funds he will have her send me the unit.

right now we are exchanging e-mails.im begging him to send me the unit then ill pay.on my last e-mail i told him ill send him 20,000 in money orders and for him to cash it,take out his portion, and send me the balance and the unit.havent heard back.

You need to watch for these. Recently the scammers are getting smarter by hacking into regular member's accounts and sending bogus second chance offers. Before you could tell because the messages were not going actually through eBay.

You would be able to tell. It would not be your account but the person sending the message. I change my password fairly often and had my account hacked into. The person used my account to contact members through ebay but not through an auction. I woke up and found all these replies to messages I never sent for products I have never looked for. Luckily nothing was accomplished with my account except for me changing all my personal info and logins and then letting the other members know the contact was fraudjulent.

should have asked for an address so you can send it to his home, then if he gives you one, send it to ebay.
