New wave of traditional progressive rock?

Sign in to disble this ad
not sure if this is the right section for this, but whatever. There are many bands today that are a somewhat throwback to older styles of music, but are writing original music. An example of this is bands Holy Grail, white wizzard, cauldron, enforcer are considered part of the new wave of traditional heavy metal, which are somewhat of a throwback to the classics like iron maiden, judas priest, etc but are writing original songs and have their own original style. What I was wondering is if there are any bands that are a somewhat throwback to the classic prog rock bands like rush, yes, genesis, gentle giant, etc. I think it would be awesome if a "scene" for the lack of a better word of these bands started up if they don't already exist. Just looking for some opinions or some pointers on where to find some bands to listen to that fit this description.

Porcupine Tree and Transatlantic are two that come to mind. Not quite classic, but it's as close as you'll get.

Ad Infinitum. The CD is a few years old now, but they even used period keyboards, guitars, and amps for the project. Earlier Spock's Beard has sort of the era (especially the bass parts and sound) vibe to it. They even used Hammond organs and Mellotrons as well. Thier signature CD: Beware of Darkness. Check it out.
