New Year bass resolutions

What do you resolve to accomplish as a bassist this year? Be specific, if you're gonna practice more, what will you be practicing? Will you be buying or selling or restoring anything? What are you gonna do with bass in 2011?

Take regular lessons, un-learn the bad habits I picked up from starting out on guitar, learn to play Motown/funk/soul, and join or start a Motown cover band.

This year I want to play music that I want to play, rather than just going with the flow.

I also want to delve deeper into live sound.

I will be buying a rig this year! I had one before, but I needed the money since I was going to school and never really played out. As to what, I was thinking of going either Markbass or GK. Now I have to decide if I want to for 4x10 or 2x10+1x15!

Play more style and learn more techniques in playing. Use my pink finger when fretting, use three fingers to pick faster

My major goal is to play out in front of people. That means I actually have to learn some songs and I guess find a band to play with.

Aside from that, just work more on using the metronome.

Ordered a bunch of learning material from Carol Kaye the other day. I've been playing for more than 15 yrs and it's about time I learn how to read.

i make resolutions all the time, so these are irrelevant to the new year, but current bass resolutions i've got going are to tighten up my intonation on upright, and to find and buy an electric that's on the same level as my '77 P. i think i'd like a Ric 4003, but it may take a while since i stopped teaching last summer and i've been paying the bills on gigs alone since then. so i don't usually have a spare $2500 kickin around. haha. also probably drinking less, which isn't exactly bass-related, but it kinda is considering i work in bars 70% of the time. you know how it is...

Wow! If I did that, I might actually IMPROVE! Scary!

Actually, I'm going to improve my pick work.

Get back into practicing again.

In my recent years I've gotten so deep into cars and motorcycles that my first passion has almost gone to the way side.

It was so easy to play for 5 hours a day when I was in middle school but a life cramps some of this...but you make time for the things you want in your life.

Time to make time for my bass playing.

I've resolved to look at why I play bass (and music in general) differently. I picked up bass a few years ago to get into a band that is really awesome, and although it's still going strong (released an EP, working on our first full length) I've realized that you can't count on anybody but yourself. Sometimes your drummer just doesn't look at his work schedule until the day of an important practice or recording session, and all the bitching in the world isn't gonna change that. I'm trying to set myself up to be a lifelong musician and multi-instrumentalist instead of just the bass player for Tin Can Phone. Also I want to play louder
