New Years Bass Resolutions

Sign in to disble this ad
In CST, I now have just under nine hours to 2010. My one resolution is IotaNet's favorite saying,"more Mel Bay, less Ebay!"

Seriously, I don't feel like spending big money on a new bass only to play the same tired licks. I plan to make some real progress as a player in 2010, God willing.

Mine is:

Get my MIA Fender where I want it, then get a good backup to it. Secondly, play my butt off and make connections, and spend as much time in Nashville as possible.

For some reason i wanted to play guitar more in 2010 but i know thers a billion guitar players out there all better then me. I am trying to progress to other styles i use to be treble all the way up pop punk and now i roll my tone up and play hendrix or zeppelin covers, its more rewarding and playing the same style of music limits me as a player.

Been player 6 years and everyone i know says i double my skills early but i have been in a rut 2009 and in 2010 i plan to crawl out of it.

and push my band

YOu are the moderator so you know best, but I honestly felt that 'Basses" would be a good place to put it because someone may very resolve to get a new bass. On second thought, this makes the most sense.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

Happy New Year to y'all!

I'm going to spend more time out of my 'comfort zone'.
This past year I've managed to master my fear of the 5 and have performed a full 3 sets on it with no 4 string backup. Frustrating at times, but now I'm jazzed!
Next, learning to use the bow with my Clevinger...

Spend more time sight reading, increasing my knowledge of harmony (on the piano and and the bass) and master the fretboard. Once all of these formalities are taken care of, learn to play "Giant Steps". Other than that, not much!!!

I like that! I don't make resolutions, but I am done buying every shiny new bass I see....I plan to add one more, maybe in 2010 but there is my custom build. I will start buying parts in 2010 and there is my Ricky that will come when I reach a goal that I set.

More time playing, less time paying!

Personally, I would like to just have enough time to get into a regular practice schedule, and maybe play in band for the first time in too long a time.

Beyond that, I would like to get my rig to sound a bit better. I think a Fearful 15/6 will help as I do not like 4x10 cabs like I used to. I would like to update the electronics in my Carvins to something less anemic. If I had money I would pick up a Cirrus, or a nice Bee Stinger, or a Bordwell Singlecut, but alas that is not likely within my budget this coming year.

I just know that my playing has been pretty stagnant for a while, and a shiny new wonder bass won't improve my skills. I also know that what I have really works well too.

BTW, I'm not saying no new basses for 2010. Gear just is not a priority.

My bass resolution is to rid myself of the pain and numbness in my arm and hand so i may once again enjoy the instrument I love so much.

Keep playing bass. I doubt I'll ever stop but, that's all I ever worry about not how good I play or my gear is.
