New York City weekend clubs... heavy r&b session guys play where on weekends?

I'm in NYC for the weekend and looking for a casual place to hang out with a heavy hitting r&b/funk band. Covers, originals, doesn't matter.

I remember Jerry Brooks playing once upon a time at Cafe Wha in Greenwich Village. Are there any other clubs in the city where I can chance upon some monster bass playing tonight?

Ahh, nevermind.

I'm going to update this for archival purposes.

So through a random encounter at a Sam Ash in Queens, I actually got to talk to Jerry Brooks himself who was unfortunately off for the night. (Super nice guy! Incredible player, too.)

His recommendations were:

The Village Underground, 130 W 3rd St
Groove, 125 Macdougal St
Cafe Wha, 115 Macdougal St
Lion's Den, 214 Sullivan St

all of which are conveniently located in Greenwich Village, right next to the NYU campus.

Will Lee's playing tommorrow night (May 4, 2009):

Sometimes you can get standby tickets for Letterman, if they're taping. These seats are made available when people who were sent tickets don't show up. 1697-1699 Broadway between West 53rd and West 54th Streets

There's also the 55 Bar, where you can catch Anthony Jackson, Janek Gwizdala, and other bass luminaries:
