TGAM: How far off is the next album?

Lifeson: We were off for a year and a half, and now it's just pouring. Everything is totally crazy and there's not a minute left in the day. We've got these half-dozen songs, and we'll probably go in the studio and work on a couple of them and see how it goes, perhaps release something – and I say perhaps – and then we plan on being on the road in the middle of June. Ideally, we'd like to showcase a couple of these songs on the tour, come off tour in mid-October, go back in the studio and continue writing, then record through late this year and early next year, and then release the album in the spring of 2011 on a slightly more substantial tour. This [year's] tour will probably be about 45 dates. Most likely summer, 2011, would be more like 70.

I hope they get to Brazil in 2011.

Also, someone who regularly posts on that Rush fansite said he met Nick Raskulinecz in a grocery store and Nick told him one of the songs "has a Natural Science feel to it".

Great news!

Did you read about Rush being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame? They were here last weekend at the gala and 3 other performers (one is Primus doing Freewill) did 3 of the songs they won the awards for. I'll need to check youtube to see if they're up.

http://www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2...n-toronto.html

Neil mentioned he went to Geddy's house and they played him 5 songs they want to put on the new album. And I'm really glad to read they're working with Nick R. again as I totally dig S&A.

I think I'll sit outside Geddy's place and chase him down when he steps out the door....

I used to fear their last tour, but as I age, and better than 40 concerts attended in my lifetime, I appreciate that these 3 guys still have the energy to give me one more small piece of greatness before I die. Also with all the video record, it will never really be the "last" tour;-)

I have to hand it to Rush; chugging along for so many years, keeping things fresh for themselves, enthusiastic to put out a new ablum every 2 years or so, pushing themselves to be better musicians. Definitely a bunch of guys to admire.

I know I'll be digging through Rush songs on bass and drums for years to come.

Been going to their concerts since the 70's. Even got to meet Alex and Geddy once at the Electric Ballroom in Atlanta. Rush is great, I love those guys! Best wishes for the new music and tour.

My son(sitting here home from college for a bit) was in his Mom yet unborn when we saw RUSH in Houston in 1990(?)! He's never seen them(live) but has heard them then and in exposure from me. This time, we're both going.....

I haven't been to a Rush concert yet. I'm 20 years old and got a lot of freedom nowadays so once they announce a tour I'm gonna find the closest location and go for sure!

I think its cool that a band like Rush, who has a sizable built in audience who will pay a bunch of money to go see them play, still puts out new records & writes new music.

Especially considering that I'm sure they make way more from touring.

My son played Tom Sawyer at his drum recital a few months ago, now he wants to meet Neil Peart. We're definitely going to the next Rush concert. I only saw them twice: the Signals tour and in 1997 when they played 2112 again for the first time in years.

If they tour, they'd better play Fountain of Lamneth in its entirety, or I'm gonna have to hurt someone...

According to some interviews, this tour will be mostly a B-sides tour. But I doubt they'll play anything from Caress of Steel besides Bastille Day; Rush said they were really unsatisfied with that album.

I think it was more that they were unsatisfied with the way their fans took it, a lot of people didn't like it; it was almost the end for rush until they released the masterpiece that is 2112.

A lot of people think Rush was more of a Led Zeppelin band and they started off sounding that way, but they become serious followers of Yes and their style of Prog Rock and odd time signature songs. Yes also provided the flowing white robes for their early gigs....

I believe Caress of Steel was their attempt at going that route, and the album bombed. The record company put pressure on them to do more radio play stuff. So they resisted by putting out 2112.

Damn, that's probably their best, IMO
