Well, In a few minutes I'll be on my way to see Jane's Addiction, NIN and Street Sweeper. I'll let anyone who cares know how it went when I get back.

NIN went on next and actually started when i was still walking through the parking lot. I like NIN but I wasn't really impressed with the sound. Although to be fair I've only heard people describe NIN shows as "absolutley amazing" so expectations were really high. The band was playing well but the main mix was a little muffled almost like I was listening to a NIN cd through my PA system and my horns went out. Plus Trents keyboard was way to loud and drowned out almost everything at times. Justin Meldal-Johnsens bass tones were killer, playing was great too but the band overall didn't seem to have the energy that you feel when a band really gets going. Overall I'd say their set was pretty good. O yea, their light show is intense but at times feels like staring into a headlight.
Jane's Addiction takes the stage, starts playing and the first thing I notice is how much better everything sounds. All instruments and vocals are balanced and clear. Everything is loud enough for you to feel without making your ears bleed and I can't help but wonder if NIN had to play through a PA set for Jane's Addiction. The second thing I notice is Eric Averys awesome bass tone and solid as a rock bass playing. Jane's set was awesome all the way around. Set list was awesome, stage and light show was cool, it sounded great, they were energetic and obviously having fun and the band was locked in from start to finish. Overall I'd say their set kicked ass!
If you've got tickets to this you won't be sorry.

I saw them in San Diego and it was the exact opposite. NIN sounded clear and balanced. Jane's opened with 3 days and all you could hear is THUD, THUD, THUD! The subs were SOOO friggin' loud it buried everything else, especially Avery. It wasn't like a nice tight kick either, it was loose and flabby. I kept thinking, "they've got to fix this", but they never did. The PA was set up for NIN and it was like they didn't make any adjustments for Jane's. I can't believe that there was a professional sound guy sitting there thinking, "this sounds great!"
Anyway, Jane's rocked! Perry is still doin' his thing at 50! I hope the sound is better when I see them Wed. in Irvine.

I was thinking maybe it was because we were so close to the stage and far off to the side. Regardless of where you are sitting , you should have quality sound at a venue like that though, especially in orchestra.
Where were you sitting?

Where were you sitting? | agreed, i had a ticket for the seats, section 202, a bit to the right, but the bandmates and friends were in the grass so i hung out up there, it sounded pretty good up there actually, as far as shows go, ive been to worse sounding ones... i wish it had been louder though, it was kinda on the quiet side which was depressing
