No Bass Gear in the Latest GC Flyer!

I received the newest Guitar Center Flyer in the mail today. Joe Perry is on the cover. What is that thing on his face? His mustache looks like two parentheses drawn with a Sharpie! Anyway, back to my point. There is not a single piece of bass gear in this flyer. There are guitars, guitar amps and pedals, drums, keyboards, mics, even DJ equipment. Not a single bass or bass related product! Kind of makes me feel like GC is saying FU to bass players!

Mine had a "basses for non bass players" page with a bunch of entry level basses.

The same issue I received did have bass gear, although minimal, it featured a sky blue EBMM Bongo, which they haven't actively marketed in years. GC is trying to do more tailored mailings. I've seen issues devoted to DJs recently. The issue also had some photos and blurbs from employees at my nearest store, so I think they are tinkering with more targeted content.

Weird! Why would they send me a flyer without bass gear when almost everything I have bought from them was bass related?

I say tinkering. I don't think they are getting it all right, but they are tinkering.

I don't think you will ever see a GC mailing with just bass gear in it (they know where their bread is buttered, ie skinny string side).

Speaking as a guy in the direct marketing biz, that's significant fail if they're trying to do segmented mailings. Mr. Bain should demand his money back.

Then again there's the real possibility that they really don't care for the bass brethren and sistern and sell bass gear because they "have to."

Two thoughts on this (bear with me I've never seen a GC flyer):
1. no bass stuff in flyer adds an air of mystery to us as a people.
2. it feels like the bad old days when there was only one bass on display in the shop, probably with a tag reading 'base guitar' & when you paid for it they would ask 'so, you've been demoted to the bass?'

I saw the cover of the flyer and was so frightened I burned it with fire and never actually got to open it.

Actually, GC makes the majority of it's money from the DJ/pro audio side. It's probably about even between the two. The markup on some of that stuff is rediculous.

I think Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are having a contest to see who can become the ugliest gypsy woman!

I felt a little insulted after seeing that, considering both of my basses cost less than any presented on that page.

HA! A Fender Jazz or Precision? Those are for "Non-Bassists."
