I have no gig money that I can use for purchases. How many of you are in the same boat?

And in the last 2 weeks, I purchased a new MTD535 and a 1963 P-Bass...
All through High School, COllege and the two years after I played bass (and other music stuff) full time... for the last 9 years... maybe a blues gig for $50 bux here or there... haha... |

I've sold off a lot of my extra gear because of that. Thankfully the current one has enough organization and connections such that I think I'll actually end up in the green for once. I hope at some point I can pay by playing for a nice Jazz Bass. |

Never have, really, except for one weekend where a band I was in played a wedding reception and a private party. I made about $700 in two days and immediately bought a Fender Jaguar bass. And sold it two weeks later.
My gear money always has come from raises, bonuses, selling other gear, or -- my favorite place -- out of nowhere.

My gear purchases usually come from trading or selling a pedal, or like above, bonuses or my favorite time of the year - Tax Return season!

But I don't know if I can or truly want to pull the trigger on $2,500 for a bass anyway, so I was probably saved from myself.
I do still have my money from Friday in cash, but I'll just use that for food and misc until it runs out.

| | Gettin' medieval on yo' bass... | | Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: new hampshire | | | Never had a paying gig, but haven't been at this all that long. It seems like I'm constantly shopping for gear and even occasionally buying some (makes the Mrs very nervous), but in reality both my basses and the amp -- all the expensive stuff -- came as presents. The self-bought gear is all miscellaneous stuff -- a DI/preamp, straps, cords, stands, mic stand, gig bag for the bass that didn't come with one, stuff like that. I have bought a couple of cheap used basses but then sold, traded, or donated them.
Trying to get a couple of projects together to gig now, but whether I'm going to have a day job past this summer is very much a question mark -- which would mean any gig income won't go to GAS, but to plugging budget holes. Hopefully regular work will show up soon.
