Noise Ordinances

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I moved into my house begining of November. Great warm day a week ago, so I set up my rig in my garage to try out my newly fixed bass. Played it for about 2 or 3 minutes. Packed it all up, put it away and thought nothing of it. A short while later I noticed cops rolling through my neighborhood. 3 of them!! Just shluffed it off. Fast forward to Saturday. Met one of my neighbors. He asked me if I had a band practicing in my garage and told me that the very old woman at the end of the street calls the police if he has his garage radio (for the baseball games) up to loud! Then it dawned on me. Now Monday morning I searched out my city ordinance for noise! 70Db at 1 meter height from the nearest lot line from the direction of the complaint
70Db WHAT
Comment and help please!

Another good reason why I just practice at home with my pedal board in my Presonus Firebox, or into my NeoPak, out of the D.I. into my Presonus Firebox and listen through some decent headphones.

We had a 65db at the property line point of origin ordinance around here for a long time.

Huge PITA for all the bars.

Eventually they changed it to a much lower reading at the point of complaint. Once people got the idea that the phone call would get you cops knocking on you door and walking in whether you liked it or not (Hey, you called us. Remember? That's all the permission we need.) the problems mysteriously went away.

It is 70Db from the property line of where the complaint came from. So in my case it would be 70Db from her property line!!
