I am mostly a non gigging bassist at the moment. I use a Behringer ULTRABASS BX1200 and a stock SX pj if your playing at home you only realy need something that works and you enjoy playing. I sugest not a 15W practise amp because it will piss you off when it distorts and volume level 5.

get an fx system for some more houe playing fun, and some form of cheap drum machine or drum loop playing device so you can improvise funky chops over cheesy drum beats

I don't gig right now, but I used to and will again soon, so my rig is justified, methinks.

I always used to play on a Peavey Combo 300, well under par for the gigs I did later on owning that sucker, but in the bedroom it was just fine.

I switched to a GK backline 600 with the 210 and 115 cabs, also under par at gigs, but massive at home.

Now it's a Carvin R1000 with the same cabs. I always use an Ibby SR506, and I'm working on what may or may not be a 50's Rhythmline P-Bass right now.

GK 400RB-IV/210 combo and at the moment a westfield jazz bass, but will soon be upgrading to a Fender standard P-bass, and i'm hopefully going to be gigging soon.
