Is it normal to cry listening to a song?

I can't believe I'm sitting here sobbing listening to a song!
The song is My Father's Shoes by Level 42, and it just seems to have a rather strange effect on me..........
Here is the song-

Have you ever cried listening to a song?

Sure. If you cry at EVERY song you hear then I would say no.

I don't mean to stereotype you, but after taking a look at your profile, your post makes total sense.

To sympathize, I would say that I surely get goosebumps when I hear a specially good piece of music.

Readily available emotions sometimes fade with age, you know, and you save crying only for special occasions.

BTW, Level 42. . . yeah!

Oh, two albums I find incredibly emotional are "Taproot," by guitarist Michael Hedges, and Pat Metheny's and Charlie Haden's "Beyong the Missouri Sky."

"Beloved Wife" and "Wonder" by Nataile Merchant/10,000 Manics.
"Twenty" by Robert Cray had my bro-in-law and I both flowing tears at a concert.

"The Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg does it for me. A friend of mine performed it as his Dad's funeral because the song reminded him of his Dad and their relationship. He made it through the whole song without breaking up...which is more than I can say for me. It was one of the most touching tributes I have ever witnessed. To this day whenever I hear it my eyes start to leak.

Sometimes an old song that is not at all a sad one will just bring me back to a time and it can hit me hard enough to make me cry.

How about just a melody? That can do it for me too.

It all depends on the situation and my mood, but to answer your question it is possible.

After Stevie Ray Vaughan died, I couldn't listen to Riviera Paradise without it bringing a tear to my eye.

but on topic...

probably normal to cry to songs though i guess "how often" you cry to songs and how sensitive you are is backed up by unsolved problems you might have and or the sensitiveness of your nature..

when i was like.. 12... i cried a lot to songs because of issues.
I solved most of them and "almost" never cry to anyting...

well... i think were starting to beat a dead horese here...

anyways...remember this--->

Nope... No way IMO. I think that is a sign that something is not quite right.. like an underlaying emotional issue. But I'll have to say that a LOT of people that will not cry during any other kind of music, WILL however shed one or two big ones when they encounter a patriotic song or their respective national anthems..

Actually, this same senerio has happened to me on more than one occasion.. alot of ex-military have a soft spot for that... Kiwi's, Aussies, Brits, Kanuks, Yanks .. it dosen't matter.

There are a couple songs that seem just perfect for certain issues sometimes and can make me cry.

Please Stay, Back in the High Life Again, Keep Me in Your Heart for Awhile tend to do it for me. They're all Warren Zevon tunes

Ummm, usually when I hear a recording of myself it brings tears of shame....

Seriously, once I had just broken up with a girl and heard "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks and completely lost it. I know ...stupid song... but that's what is cool about music. It's not always about who is the fastest and most accomplished, but who has the ability to convey an emotion to the point where you say, "Hey, that's exactly how I feel! It's not JUST ME!" And it's not neccessarily tears of sadness, but tears of joy and relief knowing that someone else has been there too and can relate.

Dude, you're completely normal. Just don't tell anyone else about it except us, here on the world-wide internet....

Yes. Music is a totally emotional thing. It's meant to bring out different feelings depending on the writing.

I still can't listen to some of the "Concert for George" album that Eric Clapton put together for a tribute to George Harrison without tearing up thinking of what these guys are going through playing music that they recorded and performed with Harrison and now he's gone. You can hear it in Clapton's solos on the album. Then seeing the DVD of the concert, there's Harrison's son, looking so much like him in his early years right there on stage playing along with the music. Oh, yeah! Tears!
