Is it normal that my laptop has better sound than my amp?

Not sure if this is the correct thread as it involves laptop aswell but essentially I got a Roland cube amp and its good but when I play it just with the amp on my headphone it has a raw sort of tone where I can even hear my finger scratch along the fretboard etc but when I plug my amp into my essentially crappy notebook for recording and playing with songs it sounds significantly better I have hardly any issues with it from my view. Just wondering why that is? surely it should sound worse with the soundcard or does the amp act like a preamp boosting the frequencies therefore making an even better tone? I guess if I got a real computer it would sound even better right?

Are you recording on to your computer then playing it back? or are you using your computer as a speaker and hearing it as you play?

depends what your definition of 'better' is. don't focus so much on what it sounds like while recording with headphones, listen back to the tracks on a real sound system. i think you'll find that the 'amp' track will cut through the mix better and overall sound richer. amps sound bright through headphones, just the way it goes.

Both I think but I'm biased as I ain't recorded via a amp only amp to laptop. But yeah both recorded and playing it personally for me sounds much more deep compared to the amp which does have more treble which might explain why I perceive it as the weaker tone as I prefer dark thumpy low but at the same time the treble ain't bad aswell on laptop personally. I'll certainly start trying to listen to bass on a real speaker system though soon thanks for the suggestion.
