Nut Material?

I need a replacement nut for my SX project bass, the stock plastic one is pretty cheap.

Basically, I'd like to know:

1. What are the typical materials for a Jazz bass nut? (bone, graphite, etc.)

2. Where can I get a nut with the string grooves already cut? The ones I saw on StewMac are all smooth and uncut.

Just go to a local shop... ask some questions, & they can do it for ya. Plus, you get to help out the local guy.

That's a great idea, and I wish I could follow your advice.

The only problem is that in the dinky slopmop of a town in which I currently reside, intelligent music store owners/workers with more than a few rusty whacked-out braincells are few and far between.

I wish that we had a local music store worth supporting. At least I won't be here much longer.

Any other help?
