I was in Smoothie King today and suddenly a Widespread Panic song was playing. Not one of my favorite WP songs, since Mike was not present, but Widespread Panic nonetheless.
This reminded me of a time when I was in Wendy's and the Pink Floyd song San Trope started up. I know people who are obsessed w/ Pink Floyd who have never even listened to that album (Meddle). I'd say it's a fine album, w/ the exception of that song.
Another time I heard Widespread Panic in one of those Brinker&Brinker restaraunts (which shall remain nameless). It was a better song, Feels Like Mississippi, but still no Mike Houser.
Widespread Panic, by the way, has been one of the 20 top grossing bands in the country for well over a decade (at least as far as ticket sales) and most people have never even heard of them. On a related note, the late Mike Houser is the greatest soloist of all time by a long shot.
I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences.

"I bought my first real six inch... standing in the subway line, they asked if I wanted wheat bread, i told them honey oat would be fine... it was the best sub of my life"
So that was the running joke when we played that song, and then I acutally did hear that song playing when I was standing in the subway line. It was funny as hell

I was pretty cool, I thought.

The staff liked me and a buddies taste in music so much, when it became time to get a new round of discs put in the machine, they gave each staff member 5 picks, and me and my buddy each got to pick 20 discs each. The only rule was, you werent allowed to pick any record that had "that one radio song on it" that would get played over and over and over - so more obscure the better.
Needless to say, there were always some very interesting selections on the juke box. 2 months later, it was voted best juke box in Dallas by the Dallas Observer hehe. |

Also check out the Weather Channel. If you get to the "local on the 8's" and watch it enough, you're guaranteed you will hear something that you wouldn't expect.

I haven't heard them w/ Jimmy Herring, but I think he's better than George. I just thought it would've been cooler if they''d used the guitar tech, sam holt. Using Jimmy Herring makes them like every other hippie band w/ a dead lead player.
