Talking Observations from the Wooten/Blair show last night

Thought I'd share my thoughts from last night's show in Ft. Lauderdale, FL:

- Victor Wooten is a monster. He was as brilliant as I could have ever hoped.
- Wooten and Blair were playing funk so deep, I fell in the groove and couldn't climb back out.
- Blair playing piano on his Roland Vdrums during an improv section was bananas.
- Overly aggressive bouncers were an unnecessary distraction. Relax dudes! It's a funk show, not Cannibal Corpse.
- Guys who brought their wives that did nothing but talk loudly over Wooten's most delicate playing were certainly not cool. The bouncers should have focused on them.
-Mixed feelings about the Wooten camp's decision to disallow cameras during the show. On the one hand, I understand the reason, but on the other hand you always want pics of your heroes.
- Wooten's eight year old son is going to be a MONSTER on the drums. The three songs he played were crazy.

If you were at the show last night (or have been to any of the other shows on the tour), share your thoughts!

WOW! I can't believe that the kid is now 8 years old! I held him as a BABY! Vic and JD just have a really special musical connection. And both are stellar individuals as well.

If you REALLY want your mind blown, go to his camp in TN. I was there in 2001. I spent the week with some really amazing people. All good people...all good musicians. But the nature stuff was awesome too. Jaco's two sons were in my group all week. Bela Fleck's brother was my cabin mate. I got there a little early on the first day. For about an hour I was playing ping pong with Jaco's sons, Steve Bailey, Adam Nitti, Vic, his wife and kids. Suddenly I realized I was standing at a ping pong table, outside on a foggy morning (they had moved it outside to make room for the registration stuff that was about to happen), with Vic's baby in one arm (the 8 year old from last night - this was 2001), a ping pong paddle in the other hand, and all these bass legends all around me. Noone else had arrived yet. Now THAT's a moment you just have to stop a take in.

Also during that show he played alot of jaco covers.. portrait of tracy, continuum, teen town with juliu pastorious on drums... to honor the late great bassman who is from ft lauderadle

But he played them all with his own feel and sound

When Vic and JD play together, magic happens.
