I own an ocarina. But I have not a chance to really play it. Its a 6 hole ceramic ocarina and it is a bass ocarina. I find it difficult to get a solid, fully colorful tone out it when running a scale. Perhaps that just comes with time in playing it. Perhaps it is a low quality ocarina since it is only six holes? I tried to research it, after buying, and I came across two things. Perhaps I should have gotten a soprano because that will handle melody better. And no matter how hard I search on the web for info on playing it... everything always relates back to Zelda: Ocarina of Time... That's cool but I would like to see something beyond that.

Before you incorporate it into a gig, get ready for the N64 equivalent of Freebird.

I dunno man, I dig it just fine, but it just screams "King Richard's Faire" or campfire songs more than rock and roll. Well, unless you live on the Shire.

Are you in a Celtic band? Not being pithy, just giving an honest opinion.

I own one. It was cool for about a month, but I quickly gave it up. It was incredibly hard to produce a good tone out of it.

My kids have ocarinas. I love playing them. Some produce good tone, some don't. Some do for me but not for them as I'm a woodwind player and they aren't. They can be very beautiful instruments if you get a good one and learn to manage your airstream to produce a good tone. Our funniest ocarina is the dinosaur. You have to blow in his hind end.

Yeah, obviously my comments were in jest and my ignorance to the instrument was showing, but it's a neat sound...your video was very good. I realize that abou Wild Thing and recognized it quickly... good luck in your integration into your band.

I have a few and have used them as looping drones in recordings. The best ones I have are human figures from the Andies...one is a head (med register) and one is a sitting guy playing pan-pipes. That one is almost lower pitches than audible, but recorded without the breath sound, it's haunting.
Ocarenas are amazing. Did you know Mic Karn used them in his solo recordings?
