I find it difficult to get a solid, fully colorful tone out it when running a scale. Perhaps that just comes with time in playing it. Perhaps it is a low quality ocarina since it is only six holes? I tried to research it, after buying, and I came across two things. Perhaps I should have gotten a soprano because that will handle melody better. And no matter how hard I search on the web for info on playing it... everything always relates back to Zelda: Ocarina of Time... That's cool but I would like to see something beyond that. |

Are you in a Celtic band? Not being pithy, just giving an honest opinion.

They can be very beautiful instruments if you get a good one and learn to manage your airstream to produce a good tone. Our funniest ocarina is the dinosaur. You have to blow in his hind end.

I realize that abou Wild Thing and recognized it quickly... good luck in your integration into your band.

The best ones I have are human figures from the Andies...one is a head (med register) and one is a sitting guy playing pan-pipes. That one is almost lower pitches than audible, but recorded without the breath sound, it's haunting.
Ocarenas are amazing. Did you know Mic Karn used them in his solo recordings? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
