It wouldn't surprise me if it was real, to be honest, Fender came up with a good number of odd/failed designs during the 80s that were supposed to appeal to the Hair Metal crowd.

fender had basses with that HMT designation is the 80s too. They had the same style headstock and 3 j p'ups

Ok, just wanted to make sure. Didn't appeal to me, but I didn't know Fender branched that far out.

Yes the ugly beast is real. A neighbor down the street from me has the Strat version of the HMT series in some lavender/pinkish color. He's tried to sell it with a Peavey Classic 4x10 amp he'd bought with the guitar back in the day of his big hair metal youth. He refuses to seperate the combo, and he wants too much money to begin with. I do confess that the HMT Strat he has is certainly a curiousity that would be nice in anyone's collection of odd ball guitars if you could get it cheap enough.
