The Official "What's In Your Gigbag" Thread

This is my gigbag:

It's a simple, cheap backpack I got at some conference I attended.

It contains everything I need to play a small to medium club gig (or similar) except a bass, a speaker cabinet, and any pedals I can't do without.

It weighs 14.5 pounds as a result of the weight reduction kick I have been on recently. Mind you, this includes the amp head.

Here is what is inside:

  • 1 Markbass LMII amplifier
  • 1 Power cable for the amp
  • 1 15 foot medium-duty extension cord
  • 1 6 foot extension cord with a 3-plug tap
  • 1 additional 3-plug tap
  • 1 3' Speakon speaker cable
  • 1 3' 1/4" speaker cable
  • 1 15' instrument cable
  • 1 10' instrument cable
  • 1 Set of allen keys
  • 1 Roadie Rench
  • 1 Cable snips
  • 1 Needlenose pliers
  • 1 String winder
  • 1 Pen and 1 Sharpie
  • 1 Angled screwdriver
  • 1 Small case with things in it I might need mid-set (tuner, earplugs, lip balm, flashlight, a 9V battery)
  • Fuses
  • A few Fina Dupa stickers and business cards
Now that write this, there might even be a couple things here I can still do without - I am constantly trying to reduce to the necessary.

I also keep a spare set of strings in each bass case, and I usually cram a stand into some pocket on the bass case as well.

What's in your bag?

I use one of my wife's old hard shell photography cases. It fits everything I need easily. I'll try to list everything in there but I'm not in front of it at the moment. Cables (LOTS of them), tools, strings, tuner pedal, small floor light, binder/setlists, duck tape, power strip, ear plugs, pens..... I'm sure there's more but I can't think of anything else now.

I like it because I can throw it on top of my cab/rack and it's at the perfect height if I need to get anything out of it. I don't have to rummage through it with both hands since I can see everything in there all at once compared to the soft sided computer bag I was using before.

It's pretty big but its got wheels so it's fairly easy to move around. Except for stairs (our practice space is in a basement) and grass (our first gig on Monday was outdoors). I used to put my LMII in there as well but I rack mounted it since I need a rack for the synth anyway.

For some reason I've latched onto the idea of hard cases. Bulky and cumbersome but I like the extra protection. I'm sure it's just a phase though and I'll grow out of it soon.

Gig bag

Mine is a butt ugly red beach bag looking hunk of crap that no one would steal for any reason just by looking at it, but it's very durable and easy to toss stuff into. My vintage leather mini suitcase was stolen, so being hip did not pay.

Inside:
1 sharpie and paper
ear plugs (for the wife)
surge protector and extension cable
ground lift plug
5 x 20' instrument cables
Misc patch cables and mic cables
sleeve of 9v batteries
1 theremin
1 sansamp
1 countryman di
1 Beta58 mic for vocals
black ductape
leatherman tool
1 towel (that needs to be washed, god knows)
about 7 wrinkled up set lists
several pics of various sizes
