Just joined a second band. Its a 3 piece (bass, drums, guitar) which is what I have should joined along time ago. Why?
1. more gig money per band member!
2. less schedule hassles
3. a tighter sound
4. fewer personality conflicts (?)
This band is called DICK CASH. The leader was talking to a friend at a casino and said I might as well leave I've got DICK CASH. Somehow it suits the genre.
The genre is 50s rock with an edge.
A few songs we do..
1. Misrilou - Pulp fiction theme
2. I Fought the Law
3. rock this town
4. pipeline
5. cocaine blues
6. that's alright mama
7. secret agent man
8. love potion number nine
9. Rumble
10. Who do you love
Anyway, this band is great for me. The leader is a dude I've worked with for years and he's a great guitarist and singer with lots of charisma. Most importantly he's a great guy.
Anyone else really enjoying their 3 piece? Any drawbacks?

Plus my two all-time favorite bands are in a three peice format--Cream and Jacob Fred Jazz Oddysey |

Surprisingly, there isnt a huge difference in how I play for them, though in the 3 piece I try to fill the sound up a bit more with octaves and chords and stuff. It's a lot of fun, even more doing backup vox too... It's great being able to let loose and not worry about stepping on anyone's toes (too much) More room to move around on stage too |

So it's kind of a 3 piece. I love it!

1) Lead singer can be more energetic than our previous guitarist/singer. That energy makes the audience more in to our songs.
2) Our guitarist can now focus on his guitar playing more, and is consequently playing better, and also playing more "lead" parts than strictly "rhythm" parts.
3) Our lead singer does play acoustic rhythm guitar on some songs, and can also play harmonica parts.
4) With myself and the guitarist on backing vocals, we can do some neat harmonies and backing vocal stuff.
So, while a three piece definitely has advantages, I've just personally found that I like the four piece rock band structure a little better.
