I started listening to Primus about a year and a half ago. At first I didn't really like it, because there wasn't much guitar in most of their songs, and the singing was a bit unbearable... But that was over a year ago. But then, starting around September of 06, I don't know why and how, I just started listening to more Primus songs and started to like them.
Primus is a likable band, Les is great at the bass, and Tim Alexander/Brain are great the drums too. But then, I became more and more addicted to Primus, have every one of their songs on my computer (even Les' side projects such as Frog Brigade songs, C2B3, etc), bought everyone of their CDs, learned every bassline and bass solo Les plays, and memorized the lyric (not intentionally, probably from listening their songs too many times).
I didn't mind that much, there's not much to mind about it in the first place. Then a few days ago, I got a ride from a friend, and he was playing his favorite CD, and I could not stand the music! The friend is the guitarist and vocalist in my band, and he and I have pretty much the same music taste before. So then I changed a few other CDs, and I could not stand the music at all! I just could not stand the lack of Primusness in those songs. The lack of SOLID basslines and structures, and the lack of hilarious lyrics. I could not stand rock songs, metal songs, and jazz anymore!
I don't know what's become of my ear and mind... Now all I can listen to are: Chopin, Bach, Bobby McFerrin, Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Primus, and other bands with Claypool in them. I can see how my musical horizon is just going to get narrower and narrower, and eventually limit to Primus, and when Les dies or disbands the band, I'm just going to get into some sort of mental depression and die...

Not to much primus though because then it won't work. |

So being that Les is my favorite bassist, and Herb is my favorite drummer, I suppose Primus are my favorite band. Whoa.

~K | I wouldn't say most talented, but probably the most humble. In most of Primus' songs, Larry is definitely not doing as much as he can... Or else, too much guitar over too much bass would sound like absolutely crap. In the case of Bucket of Bernie Brains, Les usually doesn't do as much as he can so that Buckethead and Bernie can show off a bit more. Very musical people.

He thinks outside of the box, and is brilliant with doing so. And when they are live, you are right about him being on fire. He JAMMED this past november in DC. |
