I'm just really weird/picky about what I like. I like most genres but the further you break it down the pickier I get. I listen to tons of Avant Garde, Prog and Industrial metal but I can't stand Death and Tech Death. I listen to A LOT of jazz, primarily big band and fusion but I'm not really a fan of small groups (3-4 people). I like all kinds of electronica but I dislike most I've heard. One of my favorite bands ever is Reel Big Fish... but I don't like many other punk-ska bands. I could go on and on, lol.
if you like fusion jazz, listen to some old 70's era Mahavishnu Orchestra, with John McLaughlin on guitar. It will blow your mind...

The Foo Fighters is a good example of my favorite kind of music. That particular band isn't my favorite, but most of the bands I like are similar to them.

Foos are one of my favorite band. That being said, I also like "unsafe" stuff too. Pink Floyd's Meddle, Dream Theater, Yes, Iron Maiden, A7X, Megadeth, Coheed and Cambria. Most of my favorite songs by these people are not popular at all. Same with Foos. This is a list of Foo Fighters songs that I love, and if you don't hear the passion I do, then I've wasted days worth of time listening to their music.

1. These Days
2. Word Forward
3. Everlong (acoustic)
4. Let it Die
5. Come Alive
6. Home
7. Ballad of the Baconsfield Miners
8. In Your Honor

Their first record was the one I liked the most. It still sounded more rock 'n' roll. Now, they are more heavy trips stuff.

I like them for what they are - energetic pop music with good hooks and feel-good energy. I wouldn't sit and listen to them as I would a symphony or something more complicated, but they're fun to work out to. They also don't seem to take themselves too seriously, which is refreshing these days.

Frankly, I've heard only two Foo songs (Everlong and Rope, both which I can play on bass too). I like both. They don't sound the same, actually. "Rope" I like because of the rhythm changes. Makes it interesting to play. "Everlong" sounds like your standard rock song with lots of energy. When I play it, it sort of makes me jump around like a punk guy.

I'm gonna check out the garage tour thing. Sounds interesting. And I always respect a celebrity who is still fairly humble. The rest... I don't care about them, as persons.

I like the Foos because they have a catchy sound, yes. I also like them because they aren't fake. Dave Grohl might have figured out the 'hit formula' and he's one of the few artists from the 'alternative' heyday to be actively writing, recording and touring.

But he and the rest of the band has class. How many other front men would do something like this?

Foo Fighters @ Lollapalooza - Cold Day in the Sun (Proshot - Multishow) - YouTube

Their response to those wackos in Kansas city is top shelf too:

Foo Fighters - Keepin it Clean in KC - YouTube

+1. That's a rarity These Days. (I'm so punny) What you see is what you get, no fancy clothes, no goth clothing and lipstick, no haircuts, just a regular, awesome, catchy GOOD rock band.

Here they are playing they're recent album live in its entirety, in what I believe is the studio that is mr grohl's basement in encino California which is where the rich kids from The Karate Kid live run on sentence.

I used to love em but there wearing a bit thin on me these days.
I do agree that sticking to the same formula is the correct mindset for a band though. For example AC/DC, you get what you expect, everytime. The issue with this though is that as fashions and music tastes change you can drift in and out of popularity.

Right. Some acts need to reinvent themselves. Rock, jazz, blues can stay put with fortitude. Let Lady Gaga reinvent Madonna.

I would have to say this describes me almost exactly. Even down to liking RBF lol. I like any kind of music as long as it sounds good to me. There may be one band of a certain genre that I like but I may not like any others of that same genre.

I feel Foo Fighters are good but middle of the road and kind of forgettable, but man, can Dave Grohl play some drums!!!! I would love to hear him do that again.

I love Grohl and the Foo's. I feel an emotional connection to his lyrics and singing style. I'm not sure exactly how to explain it. I almost prefer a lot of the deeper cuts to their more popular stuff, and I love the acoustic side of things.

My room mate a few years back felt the same way until we saw them play in Nashville. These days, he's all about them.

I feel like they are one of those bands that you either love or don't.

If you don't like it, you don't like it. I never really got into them either. There are a few songs I like.
