One man band time?

So it's back to college and what better thing to do on the side than play music? Rather, make music.
Now I have a few choices.
1) Have an acoustic band with my one friend who seems to be inconsistent with his singing quality but great with his ability to write lyrics, sing, and play the acoustic at the same time. The drive is 10 miles.
2)Join a progressive band with actual potential which currently has 2 guitarists, me as a bassist, and are open to drummers at the moment. The drive is about 25 miles.
3)Start my own one-man band. I'll do bass, guitar, keyboard, singing, and either do my own drumming or have my friend or brother fill in.
I love the stuff my friends make, and the progressive guitarists are no doubt better than me and I like what they make. The lyricist has been a great close friend and can write powerful works of art. They both have their flaws, or I have mine and don't fit perfectly with them. I have different ideas in my head and while I may not be able to make as good of music in some aspects as them I can write more of what goes on in my head and call it my own.
If I make my own band I will also have to deal with telling them I'm out though, so what do I do?
