Title says it all. Which song do you always play when you touch a bass?
For me, it's Jamerson's "What's Going On".
The first bassline I've ever learned by ear, forever etched into my memory. |

or
Prayer of refugee - rise against.
It usually flucates between the two but they both always get played and often fight for first. I have a bad habbit of learning new songs and in the middle start off with the riff to one or the other without even realizing it.

In my noobiest days, I found a diagram of the minor blues scale.
Then I played with it and I thought it sounded familiar...and I eventually hit the proper sequence of notes. Quote:

Play it in first position to see the string spacing and then up the octave to see the action and tone a little more. Pick and fingers. Two or three times through the verse riff and I know if I like the bass or not. |

One of the first songs I learned (almost) all the way through on guitar, and that followed on bass.
Also, I always lay at least a riff or chord sequence that I made up.
