Any new Pete Cosey news?
Heard that he now has a 'Children of Agharta' quartet with Gary Bartz, Melvin Gibbs and Doni Hagen. Gary and Melvin haven't responded to emails I sent a couple of months ago.
Saw your post that he appears in the Laswell PBS programme. |

Melvin has linked to the audio through www.myspace.com/melvingibbs
I saw Melvin last night with the Punk-Funk All-Stars. (Melvin, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Joseph Bowie, Blood Ulmer and Vernon Reid.) I think Pete would have fit right in. He is pretty vague about his guitar approach - does Pete consider himself a "harmolodic" player? |

That's the performance he mentioned that the recording was from and no Pete does not consider himself a Harmolodic player. |

One more question for Pete next time you speak to him:
I have a video of a 1973 Miles Davis concert. One of Pete's guitars is a Les Paul-type affair but the body is shaped like a large mandolin. Could you ask him what it is? I've asked on a couple of guitar forums but no one knows. From the below picture, I'm guessing that he still has it.
I'll be uploading some '70s Miles footage onto Youtube soon. |

Hey David,I spoke with Pete earlier this evening and I asked him about the guitar. He told me that when he was in Japan in 73 he went into a Yamaha music store and of all the guitars that were in there the one in the pic caught his eye,he was digging it so much that they gave it to him,it's made buy a company called The Morris and maybe only 30 were made and Pete still has it. |
