Opening for Fishbone in Albuquerque!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got confirmation today that my band Chasing Disaster is opening for Fishbone at the historic El Rey Theater in Albuquerque on November 18th.

I've never really listened to much Fishbone, but I know who they are and I remember all the Norwood Fisher ads in BP Mag years ago. It'll be a very cool opportunity.

Regarding the El Rey, I saw the Flecktones there in 1998 and have a great story about that whole experience. I won't bore with details, but it's a very cool venue right on Route 66 that has hosted countless performers over the years. Just thinking about everyone who's been on that stage is very cool. Jimmy Vaughn performed there just last week... Fishbone will be my 3rd gig at the El Rey, but I'll bet it will be the coolest.

Just had to share!

Nice. It's a big hoot and a nice boost to open for a great, known band.

I love me some Fishbone. One the tightest most powerful live shows I've seen. You're gonna dig this. Congrats!

:r ollno: - Just kidding.

Fishbone's one of the most underrated and under appreciated bands out there. They are absolutely killer. They put on a GREAT high energy show. Their frontman is a phenomenal performer. It should be a great show.

POST PICS!!!!

I'm definitely familiar with them, and I've heard enough of their live shows to know that they are gonna be AWESOME! I just haven't spent a lot of time listening to them. I'll definitely be brushing up on my Fishbone beforehand.

I'm pretty excited, though. If I'm brave (or stupid) enough, I just may use a fretless myself. I may start migrating anyway (I play a lot of fretless outside of this band).

Hopefully we can get some video and a decent recording of our set. I've got the gear, but it's hard to do that from the stage.

You'll have an amazing time. The ska band I was with at the tail end of the '90s opened for them once. Come to find out after all these years that Angelo chatted with our singer after our set and said "Man, you were pretty good for some white folks." Works for me!

Norwood Fischer is a big influence on my playing. I had a gig about 15 years ago where we were the opening band for a jam night that Mr. Fischer, one of the other Fishbone guys, some of the guys from Spearhead and some bigger named studio guys would have. I knew he was going to show up. Somewhere in the middle of our set, he popped in. Our manager at the time said that I started to really overplay as soon as he came into the club. Sad for me...

Cool guy, and he was stoned as hell at the time. They even got me to get up there for a song with them. They were such incredibly good players and so far above my abilities that I just kept the groove and tried not to screw up.

I had one other very random run-in with the Fishbone guys at a gas station in the middle of nowhere in Colorado. Super cool guys, too!
