Opinion needed on Guitars from the bass player's point of view.

I'm just another fellow bass player, with a quandry on what to do about my electric guitars which is my second instrument. Having that in mind, I thought I might as well ask for an opinion from my fellow bass players. Here's the situation:

I have two electric guitars. One is a music man axis sport I bought a couple of years ago and it's still mint. It doesn't have a trem bar and it's out of production for Music Man. They now have what's called the "axis super sport".

The other is a PRS Santana model which is their Korean made modle. That does has a trem bar. I bought the axis because I love Music Man and it was one of those great deals I couldn't pass up. I got the PRS because I wanted a guitar with a trem bar. Both guitars sound completely different. My axis sport has the MM90 soap bars in them.

About a week ago, I located another axis sport for a good price. This one has a trem bar with strat styled pickup configuration. It's also the same out of production modle.

I've been thinking about combining my guitars into just one. The dealer won't offer enough on the trade in. So that options out. All I have is the option of paying the dealer about $1,300 for the Axis and selling both of my guitars to recoup the price I paid for the axis.

The trouble is that I really don't know what my current guitars would sell for on the market. Even though they are both mint, I fear that the PRS I bought for $500 will sell for less than half that and the Axis might only bring me $600. I'm just not seeing the music man guitars hold the same value as their basses, which kind of bums me out.

So I'm hoping you guys would chime in with your opinions. Would you say "stay where you're at", or would you say: "Buy the damn guitar and sell the other two".

Anyone have an opinion? I could really use one. Poll provided above. Thanks Guys...

This doesn't help you out much...

Do you actually like the ones you have? Does the guitar you want have the features that will realistically make you not miss the ones you have if you do trade/sell them?

Thanks for the comment. You are right. I won't miss the Axis because I'll have another one to take it's place. The strat config does sound kind of cool though. And I don't think I would miss the PRS Santana that much. My only misgiving would be lost dollars. Losing two to pick up one and not really getting the value out of the ones I sell.

I'm thinking that ebay is not the way to go to sell these two guitars. I may wind up putting them up on the list, or even here because I ussually see a better fair market value offer on things I sell in these venues.

I'm still thinking this one over.

For what it's worth...

I'd look at it as not only features, but how well you'd be able to use the features.

How familiar are you with the Strat-style switching scheme? I've never gotten used to the "blade" style switch on either the Strat or Tele. I don't like not being able to have adjustable volumes for the pickups available on switching. With my Tele I replaced the blade with a toggle and added a volume control, so instead of volume/tone I have volume/tone/volume + toggle. If I hadn't done that, I wouldn't be able to use the guitar like I'm used to using the guitar.

Thanks-

That's a good point about the Dual Volume set up. Most of my basses have that, and it seems to be quite standard there. But none of my guitars have seperate volumes and I've more or less accepted this as the standard for guitars.

I do know what you are talking about though and I see your point. Your mod is ambitious. I actually make basses with my brother, and could always wire in a seperate volume or a pan pot. Maybe even set up a stacked config.

But that's not on my plate. I'm actually leaning towards staying put on this one. Someone would literally have to come forward with a strong offer on one of my guitars in the next week or two, for me to do anything about the one I like. I think the other axis at the store, is going to sell pretty quick.

Thanks for the suggestion. Nice tele!!!

I voted to stay put. I think your two guitars complement each other very nicely, with the P90 Axis and dual humbucker PRS. Those can cover lots of musical ground, and I think those P90 Axis guitars sound amazing. If you really need a Strat-style guitar, you might do just as well financially to keep your current pair, and buy a good used MIM Strat. Replace the pickups, and you're in business.

I'm in a similar position. Guitar is also my second instrument, and I've ended up with a pair similar to yours: one Strat with Lace Sensor single coils, maple board, and trem; and another with OEM Duncan humbuckers, rosewood board, and hardtail, which sounds similar to an SG. These can cover just about anything, which keeps the guitar GAS under control. I could list at least five I'd like to have, but can't justify any of them.

Thanks for the opinions. I tried to see if MusicMan sells their trems off the shelf and they don't.
