It's time for me to buy my own I guess. I usually bring whatever I'm building into work, but I'm tired of doing that. Since I'm on deployment and I have some extra money I figured I'd go ahead and get one now. It can be a virtual scope, I don't need one that's super awesome, just one that is pretty reliable.

Hi.

I have two that I use.

An old single trace Telequipment (Fluke) 5MHz IIRC, that doesn't see too much action these days, the age is showing and the lack of a second trace limits its use a bit. A definite + is the price, these can be had for peanuts in garage sales and swap-meets.

The other is a 20MHz dual trace GM, not anything high end, and that means some switching interference, and other signs of cheapiness, but the 100€ price tag more than makes up to it in a hobby use.

I wouldn't worry about the probes (or the lack of them), a fresh pair is preferable if You want to get the most of the scope, and only sets you back about 50€.

I wouldn't recommend a single trace, even though the 10€ price tag can be tempting, a dual trace opens up so much more capabilities in trouble-shooting.

IMLE even the 5MHz is more than enough for tube amps, and 20 MHz for conventional SS, but class D requires a bit more accuracy.

Perhaps I haven't tried hard enough, or the examples have been less than stellar, but PC scopes just aren't for me, and neither are the PC signal generators below 20Hz or above 50kHz.

Regards
Sam

Thanks T-Bird. The Tek oscopes we use at work are really nice, but also expensive. and yes, 2ch is a must. It'd be nice if I could find a color one, I got used to the convenience of easily differentiating waveforms.
