Question Are OSP Shockmount Cases Good?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was just looking at this case for my new Ampeg SVT-4 PRO, Ampeg B1-RE (backup), Rack Tuner, Alesis 3630 compressor, and an AKG wireless system.

I know it's going to be a beast to move anyways so i figured i should go along and get the shockmount and maybe keep from breaking as many tubes.

So, just how good/bad of quality are these cases?

Thanks!

I see nothing about it being a shockmount, other than the word being mentioned a few times. As the guy in the video said, it's always "buyer beware" with these cheap cases on eBay.

Looks like a copy of the "Road-Ready" shock-mount. What is the price difference? If it's close, I'd go with the Road-Ready. If it's considerably cheaper, I'd get the cheap one and use it while I save up for the good one.

the road ready ones I've seen are around 350. This one is only 150. For a fifteen year old, thats a ton of money.

Save your money. Get a good case. I used to carry 20+ tubes in a standard rack like a Road-Ready. I was ALWAYS nervous about it. When I had to move the rack, it stayed buckled in on the front seat of my truck. I found a GOOD used shockmount on eBay for about $250 shipped, and now have no worries in traveling with it. I roll the whole thing in the back of my truck, and go about my way.

OSP.. Or OSPiece as I like to call it..

The guy that owns OSP actually lives in the same area as I do and some of my friends have worked for him. OSP is all chinese stuff that he has made for like super super cheap. A 150 dollar rack probably costs him about 15 dollars, and I'm not exaggerating at all.. Not giving you any advice at all, just presenting you the facts... Hope this helps you out a little bit!!

Check out the EWI cases at www.audiopile.net. Reasonably priced, and I've been pretty impressed with the quality of them. A friend of mine has a 4 space shock mount, and in the band I used to play in, we had (IIRC) an 18 space and a 12 space. They seem to hold up very well.

I'll be picking up a 6 space pretty soon, to replace my 4 space RoadReady rack case.

I hadn't noticed this thread.

I've had my OSP 6-space shockmount for a while but haven't traveled/gigged with it much. It was really cheap, like < $150 shipped.

It's fairly well made but has minor finish flaws (spots where the angled flashing joins at a 90 degree angle might have a small gap, though the seal is good and the lids fit well). Other than that, it looks pretty good. It is really heavy and built like a tank, however. Decent quality hardware -- same as you would get with a Road Ready, etc. Thicker plywood makes it heavier but more durable.

People should be aware that there are two main types of shockmount cases: Most are like mine, with there just being a layer of foam between the outer and inner parts and foam inside the lids. Others have actual suspension systems built in but are MUCH more expensive. I don't know how much good the first kind of shock mounting does.

The EWI cases look remarkably similar, BTW.

After seeing yours^, I'm seriously wondering if the EWI and OSP cases are made by the same company. Sure look identical to me.

I have the 8-space effects rack with the shockmount and I love it! They are actually built to last. Before discovering OSP, I had went to Guitar Center to look at cases and they have the RoadRunner case that were over double the price of the OSP case. I'm actually considering outfitting my whole band with OSP cases. Thats how nice and durable they are. Definitely recommended!

Come on guys, I know there's more than 11 of you that know about OSP Shock Mount cases. I think I am going to buy one soon so any opinions would be very helpful.

I would also like to see any pictures of things you have racked in the cases, even if they are not the shockmount versions, I just think they look so cool.

Your opinions will be greatly appreciated!

I ran across this thread doing some research on OSP cases. I don't have anything constructive to add, but I'd love it if someone could tell me approximately what these things weigh. I'd be looking for a 6 space, so I'm guessing 40 pounds or so. Gator and SKB make very lightweight cases that are tempting but don't look as durable. Anyway, thoughts and opinions would be appreciated!

When I called them they said the 8 space case was about 45 pounds so I'd imagine that the 6 space case would be about 40. Could you maybe send me a link to where you saw the other thread?

OSP Rack Case

I have had an 8 space OSP shock mount rack case for a couple of years now, with a 60 lb 2400 watt amp, Furman Power Conditioner/ Sequencer, B Max Preamp, and cross over. The whole set up is real heavy, but the rack case is very well built. The only thing I don"t like is it only has one handle on each side, and the balance point is way off. I would buy another one though.
