I'd like to do something bass-related with my summer, but I'd also like to make some money. Anyone have any ideas?
I was thinking about BassCentral, but it looks like they keep their staff small, and don't really do temps.
I asked Cliff Bordwell if I could shadow him sometime (not for money--I just thought it would be cool), but he was understandably too busy.
The obvious alternatives are GC/Sam Ash time places, which I would prefer to avoid.
Any other ideas for a job? Or any luthiers here that I'm forgetting about? I know Tobias started here, but I'm pretty sure the workshop has moved.

You could try starting a small e-bay company, and if you do it right, you can end up with a fair amount of money in your pocket. Also, I don't know how much time you're willing to spend, but you could also try builing basses (from parts via warmoth, salvaged bodies, etc) and see how that goes. Of course, if you're looking for steady money, these might not be the best option, but for fun, bass related money, it seems like a good option.

~k | I can assure you that there's not much money in either of these. I've done the prior for years, and it's really tapering off this summer, being difficult to move certain instruments, brands, etc. due to a fluxuating market.
It takes a bit of research to be able to make money doing this, knowing the market, knowing what it is you're buying and selling, and also requires overhead.

...I do know that sometimes BC hires PT guys for weekends and whatnot, but not being involved directly any more (I was the assistant manager there for 4+ years), I can't say for sure what they are looking for, if anything. They do seem to be carrying a fairly full staff.

Or, spend some time learning how to do really good setups and fret maintenance, and then advertise those services. |

I'm still developing my playing, and don't know that I'm really up for a "session player" type gig yet. I'm sure I'll stumble upon something though.
