Scotty McCreery: He's got it. A super star without a doubt.

Steven (Tallarico) Tyler was a friend of mine when we were sixteen, and even then you knew it wasn't a matter of if he'd make it big, just a matter of when. Scotty has that same aura. My bet is that he'll be the most successful 'Idol' yet.
Oh, and Lauren Alaina has it too.

They're both going places for sure. The producers are surely pleased as punch getting two very young stars- to-be to the finale.

All I know is if Lauren loses to Scotty W. Neuman, my wife's going to require major shoulder time.

Well I'm sure Scotty is amped to be on the verge of such success, at such a young age. It helps that he isn't hampered by cultural differences that may have caused voters to scamper away from some of the other contestants. But I bet it won't be long before his voice is sampled and used in a hip-hop track. I am pleased to finally see an Idol contestant who isn't just the typical campy pop performer they usually feature, and I'm sure his career will ramp up quickly and he'll put his stamp on the country music scene. Here's hoping the media machine doesn't cramp him too much, putting a damper on his enjoyment of singing.

I thought this season was a sham. Scotty is a one-trick pony (albeit a good one) and Lauren is a pretty good singer...but that's about it. I thought the bass player, the guy with Tourette's, or the guy who looks like Bradley Cooper would win for sure.

While this crew was certainly the most talented, I was quite sure it would come down to Pia and James. Lauren is good, but not yet professional, and Scotty is also very good, but one-dimensional. When Pia left, I stopped watching. When James left my die-hard wife stopped.

It seems that the fix is in! Interesting how they never divulge the number or percentage of votes for each person. It is also quite clear what part of the USA is watching and voting. Perhaps the show should be renamed.

Yeah Jimmy Iovine said that about Scotty, but said it was the best trick he'd ever seen. Then again, the show is less about music and more about making money with music. I agree about the sham aspect, but I kind of expect it. I happen to think Haley was the best singer of the top 5 (technically, not my fave), but it seemed like the judges were making a concerted effort to keep her out of the finale since she would be a little harder to market.

Edit: Your finale would have been better, I agree.

I think my wife voted at least 100 times last night.

The show is a marketing phenomenon. Tons of product placement. AFAIK Beats by Dr. Dre (+ Iovine + Monster Cable) doesn't make studio microphones or monitors, but to sell some overpriced headphones, they re-branded Genelec monitors and AKG mics with big Beats logos for the studio / Jimmy segments.

Agreed...mostly. I think both Scotty and Lauren are both very talented (and marketable), and will do very well in the country music market. However, Carrie Underwood has set the bar pretty high in terms of AI winner sucess.

My personal favorite was Casey Abrahms (IMO, the most talented of the group this year), but I think he didn't provide enough of a focused identity for a lot of the audience to figure out who he was. I'm still stunned that Pia didn't go farther, and wonder if she somehow opted out to chase other opportunities.

Judas Priest on AI! Rob Halford sounding better than I ever remember... Though honestly I don't really remember all that well...
