Other Instrument... Off The Beaten Path!

Who else plays a second or third instrument that is not very common, i.e. not a guitar or keyboard.

I play / mess around with the mandolin, and might just end up with a ukulele before Christmas is out.

List em if you got em.

Had a 5-string banjo, liked it, was fun but not easy(I'm not inbred enough to relate, I guess- no offense to the genuinely inbred ). I'd like to build one w/a wider neck. We had a big-ace 38-string harp for awhile- also fun & made nice noise even when kids are just diddling, sold it when moving as the new place lacked the room.
I also have a couple of old analog synths- great noisemakers. If I dump any of those I'll need to replace them w/something similar but more functonal.
I have lots of harmonicas and can refrain from blowing all over everything else in a band situation, so I guess I'm not doing it right.
TONS of percussion- hand drums, shakers, etc... guitars(nylon string & electric), a 3/4 cello(need a proper bow, but I attack it w/my DB bow once in awhile).

Edit: Just re-read the OP- pardon/ignore my mention of gtr & keys

I play the viola. Have done for about 9 years, so longer than I've been a bass player.

I've been playing the Uilleann pipes for 3 years now, great way to blow off some steam after a long day. I've also been playing the tenor banjo since I was 11, another brilliantly fun instrument to play! This year however has been particularly interesting as I learned to play the sitar. It's such a powerful and rich instrument to play, particularly if you're playing Hindustani music. It has the fun of the banjo but the classicism of the piano.

Octave mandolin tuned GDAD (aka Irish bouzouki), mandola tuned DAEA, played concertina for a while too. (All in the pursuit of Celtic music.)

The mandolin I play is about 14in or so. It's not that much different to when I play uke to be fair.

And as for the STPAY thread, I'm staying outta there. 5string sent me an odd PM about how I'd gotten him into trouble and I now can't be bothered dealing with him, especially in that thread.

Fair enough. That was a weird episode. That kind of thing happens with me and my younger bro. One of us will say something off the cuff, and before we know it, the whole conversation has gone right off the third rail.

PS. The "little mandolin" thing was a joke! :-)

I still don't have 'em, but I'll get an uke soon enough. I've noodled around with a couple affordable ones, and they sound and look very nice. And they aren't too hard to play on, methinks.

Seems like fun. Maybe even for a BBQ meeting or for campfire music.
