Curious if anyone has encountered this before.
On the Gibson Facebook page today, an individual had posted a photo of
their gear: a Gibson Thunderbird IV, propped up against a '67/'68 Gibson THOR bass amp. My concern is that the photo used was one that I took of my own gear and have posted previously on Talkbass and other gear forums.
When I'm surfing the internet and I find photos of cool basses, or amps, I will sometimes save them to my computer. But I never misrepresent or claim they are mine. I have on occasion posted some of these photos and said something like "
I used to have a bass like this one" or "
I came across an amp that looked like this one in a pawn shop", making it clear that I was using the photo for reference only. This person made no such disclosure.
I posted a very polite reply saying "Oh, that's a photo I took of my Gibson THOR etc...." spewing out the details of the amp in a positive manner. Within minutes, they had pulled the photo off Gibson's Facebook page. To "mark my territory" so to speak - I posted the photo myself and gave a brief description of the amp.
Are people really that lame that they need to try to pass off other peoples gear as their own? Like I said, I can see posting a picture you found online for reference purposes- but to claim that the rig and set up is a photo of your own gear is pretty pathetic.
