Although bass is my forté, there's something deeply satisfying about playing the drum kit. It's probably good for bassists to play the drums a little bit - helps to develop a better feel for rhythm and groove, IMHO.

My first instrument was the piano, and I still play enough to write. I also used to play saxophone, although I don't anymore. I get a lot of satisfaction from singing, which I do with my band. I play upright and electric, and get the most satisfaction with bass.

I like playing the Euphonium. Bass is my favorite though.

I used to be a guitar player in my teens before taking up bass. Haven't been keeping my hand in, but one thing I can still do well is that Steve Cropper/Jimmy Nolen/Nile Rodgers kind of choppy rhythm playing. It's not a real popular style among young guitarists, and they're often amazed that a guitar can function like that . It's far removed from what most players concentrate on these days, so I get to do it on the occasional recording session. Even the great guitarist I play with in our band can't nail it.

I also like singing. I have good pitch, but no real voice and no technique. That is, I sort of wheeze out the notes in a whispery tone, but I'll be in tune. I enjoy improvising three-part harmony vocals in the studio. And singing lullabies to my kid every night is a joy. He's nine now, but I still sing because we both dig it.

Next to bass, I really love to play guitar, drums and to sing. I've been thinking of getting an electric drumkit but I haven't afforded one yet. (They're expensive!) I'd like an electric set because it's silent and doesn't take up too much space. Nowaday's they're really good, too.

If I had to choose only one instrument for the rest of my life, it'd probably be guitar. But only if I wasn't guaranteed a band to play in at all times. I loooove to play bass, but it's an ensemble instrument and if I couldn't play in any bands anymore, I'd probably get tired on playing bass just by myself after a while...

When I write songs, I mostly use a classical guitar. If I'm using the bass I only come up with a groove, no actual song. But, that's of course very important, too!

My satisfaction comes from acoustic guitar. I love grooving with a band like no other, but there are few opportunities right now since all my musician friends are busy with school and such. Plus, there's just something about being able to pick up an instrument, go out on the bench on the patio outside, and sit down and play on a warm evening with no cables or wires attached. And I think a lot of the most beautiful music has been written on acoustic - I'm an eternal advocate of Michael Hedges, Tommy Emmanuel, Andy Mckee (Don't watch Drifting. Rylynn is where it's at.), and other similar artists.
