P-mount vinyl record player question

Sign in to disble this ad
I was searching for information on this topic and found a different topic on this forum (dude was trying to find a record player).

I have a JVC turntable. The needle finally died on it and I want to replace the cartridge. The table uses the P-mount cartridge set-up.

The cart that's already in it is an Audio Technica 1001.

What I want to know is do I have to replace it with the AT-1001, or would any P-mount cart fit in it?

I found an AT-92ECD cart on eBay and it looks like my AT-1001, but before I plunk down the money on it, I want to know if it'd work. I tried the AT website, but all it tells me is that the AT-1001 isn't sold in this country.

Here's the page for the AT-92ECD
http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/ca...580/index.html

It says it's a "universal" mount. I just want to make sure it'll work.

Thank you.

Check with these guys.

Good site.

I never remember having any issues with my turntable
as far as mounts on replacement cartriges.

Actually, they have the replacement needle for the AT 1001
for 24.95 plus shipping. No need to buy another cartridge then.

I have purchased from them, with no issues at all.

Edit: According to this page the P-mounts are all the same
and Universal is a P-Mount with a standard adapter.

Close thread. There are all the answers. The AT-92ECD will fit, but if all you need is a new needle for your cart, just get a new needle.

Thanks guys, I shall get that. I didn't know the needle and the cart were two different things, so I checked the AT-1001 I have and yep, the needle housing slides right out, thanks dudes.
