PA Question

my band owns a Behringer PMP3000 Powered Mixer and two Squier SQ15 loudspeakers. its a pretty loud system, but theres one stitch we've noticed. we have tried to play an MP3 player (iPod) through the CD input, connected it right, and it plays. but the levels are not that great, vocals are very soft, and it just doesnt sound great. if we got this right, itd be extremely easy to go to parties take ipods and requests and dj it. any help is appreciated greatly =D

Sounds like a phase problem to me. Make sure that your speakers and speakers cables are wired in the same phase( + to +, minus to minus). Also try your CD player in two channels ( left in one and Right in two). Play around with the volume and pan controls to get the desired effect.

If there is no gain/volume knob for the CD input on the board, plug the CD into one of the 1/4" channel inputs instead. Now you can adjust the channel gain/volume level to boost the signal. At most you may need to grab an RCA to 1/4 jack converter at Radio Shack or somewhere if you don't have one.

right now we're connecting a standard ipod to the mixer cd input, which is RCA, with a 1/8 to RCA cable. the mixer also has an rca input with adjustable volume just like all the mic channels. the levels just arent good with vocals especially. it might be a thing with the EQ, are there any settings on a visual EQ to fix this?

It's odd that vocals are the only or main issue. Are any low or high pass filter buttons on?

Give the eq a boost around 4-6khz to add more vocal presence.

Having said that, it's actually a better idea to remove with the eq than add. What are you hearing too much of? Low end? Whatever the answer, tweak the eq until the vocals have a greater presence.

it almost seems like when i add the mids or subtract the lows and highs, it just gets tinnier and the vocals stay the same.

hey. fixed it. there was a simple button-pushing solution. XPQ surround or something like that, it's supposed to give vocal effects a greater presence, but when playing the ipod through it w/ it on, it boosted the mids uncontrollably. thanks for all the help!
