| Signal processing is not necessary right away. What you will need, however, are as follows:
Mixer - Be sure to get enough inputs. I would say take the most inputs you would be likely to use (mic'ed drums, guitars, however many vocals you have, DI'ed bass, keys, etc.) and add maybe four inputs.
Power amp - make sure it has enough power to run the load that you're going to be putting on it. Get familiar with the concepts of resistance (measued in ohms) if you are not already. You may need two power amps if you're running big speakers or several moniters.
Speakers - This will really depend on what you're going to be doing with it.
Cables - Make sure you have enough of these, and make sure they're long enough. When in doubt, get longer cables. You can coil them on the ground, but you can't stretch them.
You can also kill two birds with one stone by getting a powered mixer. They have the power amp built into the mixer.
You can ALSO kill ALL the birds with one stone by picking up an all-in-one kit from Carvin or Musicians Friend. |
