Packaging A 4U Rack to Ship?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I plan on selling my 4U rack, and I was wondering how I should package the unit. I do not have the original box since I'm not the original owner and I find it kind of redundant to put a hard box inside another box. Any recommended way of packaging? I plan on using UPS. Thanks

If the rack is full, take it apart and ship things individually.. might be more expensive but its WAY safer.

If you don't put it in a box, UPS will charge extra fees. I did this with a bass in an ATA flight case and they charged me an extra $12 on top of the $31 I already paid.

If the rack is empty, just find a large box, cut wide enough strips to wrap the rack in (think burrito or egg roll). As long as there is cardboard covering the outsides, UPS won't charge a fee.

Is this a rack case?

You can actually just tape it up and ship it like it is. Because it is a box that is designed to protect anything inside of it, it can be shipped that way.

Just ask SilkySmooth. He's shipped a few rack cases that way, including a gator to me, and it arrived in perfect condition.

Should I just wrap it in plastic wrapping too?

Why not give the guys at UPS a call?

Like I said, my rack case arrived with nothing but a few pieces of tape holding the covers and latches down.
