padding to back a strap with

I bought this handmade leather strap off of a leather maker on eBay a while back, and recently found the perfect bass to attach it to. Problem is that this Spector weighs a few pounds more than I'm used to. Before I go for a wider strap, I'd like to try to pad the back of this one with some sheepskin or something. As you can see by the design of it it's got pyramid studs and spikes on the top, so I don't want something to wrap too much around the top of the existing strap. I'm wondering if anybody knows of (A) material best suited to give padding to the underside, and (B) how to best attach it without too much wraparound ... like some kind of fabric or leather glue or something?

Any suggestions other than get a new strap are appreciated :smug:

2c

1/4" neoprene.. cut a long rectangular piece and cut some slots in it and feed the strap through.. no glue reqd.

I have not dealt with them for many years, but I'd say Tandy's the way to go; both for product and knowledge..

Thanks for the link. There's a leather shop (or two) locally that I'm going to bring my strap into first. Maybe head to Home Depot to scope out some neoprene as well, but I think a leather specialist will be able to make it happen
