A part of me died this morning...

when I was browsing through youtube. Months ago I moved to Texas, and not long after I got an e-mail about a special show Metallica was putting on for their 30th anniversary, a 4 day event with dirt cheap passes to see the whole shindig. I died a little that day too, but today a came across some new videos of the show that was just earlier this month... and saw how freaking crazy the whole thing really was.

They performed with Ozzy w/ Geezer, Jason Newstead, DAVE MUSTAINE, ROB HALFORD, Jerry Cantrell, King Diamond w/ Mercyful Fate, John Bush, Glenn Danzig, RON MCGOVNEY, Scott Ian, Apocalyptica, LLoyd Grant, etc etc etc... They also had Cliff Burtons father there talking about his son, along with a bunch of other friends expressing their respect for the man. All of this happening in the intimate setting of the Fillmore West.

They played everything, old and new, even doing a rendition of Seek and Destroy with a full horn section. For anyone with even a mild interest in Metallica, this was the show of shows of shows, and like I said, for seriously DIRT CHEAP ticket prices, (but you had to be a member of the Metallica fan club to buy them) and if I hadn't had the worst imaginable timing to move across the country, I would have been there....

I apologize, there is no real reason for this thread, I just had to share my laments. I also know that some see it as not very cool to like Metallica, but they're the ones who started me on this metal path, with Cliff being the one that inspired me to pick up bass, for which I will always hold them in high regards.

Happy 30th 'Tallica, but you better release a high quality professionally shot Blu-ray.

For anyone interested, heres a link to one of the vids, the guy who uploaded it seemed to cover the whole thing fairly well, and I'm still making my way through them.

Shredder, I hear ya! I would have given my eye teeth to be at those shows.

Whatever the opinions of Metallica may be out there, their massive influence on metal cannot be denied.

And they'll be putting out DVDs/Blu-rays, oh yes.
