Paul McCartney tonight

Saw Sir Paul tonight, a few observations:

1) Class act all the way. I might sound like an old man saying this but I'll do it anyway: young men should take a clue from him and his band. Everybody smiling all the time, having fun and great stage presence. No ridiculous cussing or extended speeches about sutff no one cares about (Wyclef Jean was VERY guilty of this when he came a week ago), only good ole rock and roll. The guys were pros, all of them and it showed.

2) Surprisingly, it didn't have much filler (something I had expected). The Beatles had a lot of great tunes but not a lot of the "newer" stuff was ever performed live or meant to be performed live. Sure he snuck in some Wings number that are moderate at best, but it was a 3 hours show, what do you expect ? Twisted Sister performed We're not gonna take it several times when they came a year ago: Paul had three hours of solid stuff.

3) No Helter and no Imagine, wich was a let down, but we enjoyed every other hit nonetheless.

4) He spoke a bit of French and waved the Quebec flag around for an encore. I can pitcure this being on the newspaper cover tomorrow. Also, t-shirts. It might not be much (and also be corny) but it means something to us French Canadians. We still are the oldest European settlement in North America and it was nice that he catered to our soft spot

5) Finally, musicianship, showmanship and everything was off the roof. Huge fireworks, tight playing, great vocals, man, it would be tough to top this off. I also liked the fact that he gave two two songs encore instead of just one three song encore like most bands do.

6) The crowd was humongous. 3/4 of the city was there. We probably will never see such an amount of people again on the Plains. Unless he comes back, wich is never happening: my eyes actually got misty when he started playing Yesterday and I realized that the concert was ending and that I would never see him live again (he isn't gettign any younger and plays three shows a year...). Any other artist on Earth, Celine included, will never get such a draw and reaction from a crowd here.

All in all, an historic show for an historic date.
