Pawn Shop Success?

found some nice basses, never bought one tho as they were all over priced. oh did get a nice epiphone guitar, that i sold for 2 times more than i paid for it so yes some pawn shop success

It's getting harder and harder to get lucky at pawn shops nowadays due to the internet. Example, there was this place in Saddle Brook NJ, called Cash Converters, when they 1st started out they had alot of gear at reall incredible prices, now if people bring them gear, they look it up on the web and try and give people a lower amount of money so they can sell it and be consistent with the web prices, so people barely get deals anymore at pawn shops, seller and buyers alike.

I got my fiirst bass out a pawn shop for £50, my Ibanez TRB-50, great bass for the pice, and was sooo much better than the squier P bass that a friend of mine spent £220 on

i have a yamaha RBX 750 A that i got in a pawn shop. Its active and the cover for the battery compartment broke off, and no battery was inside so the guy sold it to me dirt cheap because he though the bass was broken. I took it home and put a new battery in and it it was the most incredible sounding bass I had ever heard.

I got what looked like a new (old stock) SWR WorkingMan's !0 amp, American made before the Fender buyout (red name badge), with an original promo tag still on it, for $255. Mint condition. Not incredible, but it's turned out to be the perfect home practice amp for me.

When I was stationed in San Antonio in the early 90's, a friend of mine picked up, IIRC, a Sunn all tube head and 2x15 cabinet at a run down little dive downtown. He was just starting on bass and we both eyed that rig. My problem was I didn't have anything to trade and he had a great camera to trade and ended up paying $150 for the whole rig.

i go there on a regular basis. one thing i have found is when you have cash in hand, you can pretty much name your price. those dudes do not know much a bout instruments. about a year ago i go to look over on the wall and i found an mia p. black, maple board. it had a price of 599 oh it. the guy saw me inspecting it and came over. he asked me what i thought and i asked him if it has the original case and he brought me out a fender tweed case that still had most of the case candy still left in it.

so i asked him how much better he could do on the price because it was cleary in used condition. it didnt have any thru the finish dents or anything, but it did have some scratches on the back. nothing down to the wood. it needed a set up badly, but everything worked. i said, this needs new frets and starting saying all these terms he didnt understand. i said. it needs work, what can you do. he said he would be willing to go to 550. i said come on. he said 5 was his final offer. i said check it out. i can come back in ten minutes with 400 cash. take it or leave it. he said he couldnt do it. i said ok. see you later.

n eedless to say he stopped me. at this point i had to decide whether i wanted to get used or new. i thought it over for two minutes on the ride to the bank and at that point in life i wasnt over my ocd about buying used gear. i wish i would have went back and got it.

needless to say im kicking myself for not because shortly after i bought a new mia p-bass, which now looks exactly like the used one.

cash converters is definitily a place i check regularly. last time i was in the had an esp viper bass 5 string, an ampeg ss combo amp, an acoustic head, and some pearl exports.

theres also a chain up here called cash converters, they had a used fender p-bass for $235, i took alook at it and said "goodbye car insureance hello new bass". and firend of mine also got a mint condition marshall Jcm 900 head and marshall 4x12 cab for $900 at one too.
