| | | | A drum is a drum. Percussion is a large umbrella that includes many instruments. Trap set, hand drums, cymbals, marimba, vibes, etc. |

Some non-drum percussion instruments include shakers, guiro, cowbells, wood blocks, xylophone, etc. Colloquially speaking (in the pop world), a drummer is someone who specialises in playing a trap set, whereas a percussionist is generally expected to be proficient on any number of various percussion instruments (such as congas, bongos, djembe, triangle, shakers, etc.). |

Other types of percussion do not have that-- instead you hit something else like a block of wood, a bar or sheet of metal, an earthenware pot, etc. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
